Today, in lieu of a video, I’m posting a few contrast/compare photographs from the last week. The flooding in late April was already devastating to farms and homes in the Champlain Valley floodplain. But this week warm temperatures, a heavy snow pack, and torrential rains have converged to swell the rivers and Lake Champlain to record levels. Today, the water is expected to crest at 103.2 above sea level, which is three feet beyond the flooding stage. The governor has declared a state of emergency and many waterfront residences are being evacuated, VPR reports.
